Mapping the landscape
Spontaneous and energetic layering of acrylic paint and collage is the process that thrills and motivates artist Wendy Hope. Hope is mapping the land which means showing how it feels and looks to be on or in the land. Hope is a part of the landscape as it is a part of her.
Hope aims to capture the sense, the feeling of a certain place or region- how it feels to be on the surface of this land, to be with/in its immediate ambiance. The paintings depict the textures and crust of the surface. They are not meant to be photographs of particular places but instead, are discussions of her observations and metaphors of her reactions to this environment. Development in her style and creative concept is evident and can be seen in all her paintings.
She is pushing the boundaries of her chosen medium while retaining an illusion to the landscape.
